After 27 tough days, Ed is finally home with us! He's gotten through most of the chemo side-effects and has stopped having fever. He's still without an immune system, so we still need to be very careful, but he's home, sleeping in his own bed and having quality time with the kids! (and wife!).
Ed made some remarkable progress in the last week with his physical strength and stamina. Once the chemo burns on his hands and feet subsided, getting up to walk was much easier. And, to ease my concerns, he worked with a PT nurse to master the stairs to ensure he could manage once he came home. Ed's dad also installed extra hand rails to make it easier for him to get around.
We continue to watch and wait for Ed's counts to return. He'll need to visit the clinic several times per week to have his counts monitored and to receive transfusions of blood and platelets as needed. We'll have more information about next steps (timing of transplant, etc.) in a few weeks. Until then, we're going to enjoy our time at home together!
Many thanks again to all for your prayers and support! And special thanks to all the families that have cooked their hearts out to keep us fed! It's been such a help to not have to cook!
Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks....with love and highest hopes!

Can I get an Amen ! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Guys,
ReplyDeleteThis is such amazing and great news! We are so happy for all of you and continue to keep you in our prayers every night. Knowing the strength and faith you both have it's not surprising that Ed will continue to "set the bar" on his recovery.
Love and Prayers,
Lynne & Mike
